Tips for Roasting a Turkey
You may been told that roasting a turkey is something difficult to do. Well, you will discover by reading these tips that it isn\'t as hard as it sounds.
You will find below a simple and basic recipe to get you started. In our case, the turkey will not be stuffed, so you may prepare a stuffing on the side.
Ok now, here is a list of what you will probably need :
- 12 to 14 lb. turkey, thawed if purchased frozen
- olive oil for brushing
- salt and pepper
- stuffing
And here we go.Try to follow carefully these steps ..
- Start by preheating oven up to 320 degrees F. Remove your turkey from its wrapping, and don\'t forget to eliminate neck and giblets too. Try to rinse turkey very well inside and out using cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- Now, put the oven rack on the lowest level,
- Then, put turkey inside, breast side up, on a roasting rack in a roasting pan
- Don\'t forget to rub the outside of your turkey with olive oil (please not virgin oil)
- Salt and pepper the turkey\'s body and cavity
There is no exact time, it\'s always around three hours. So if you want a more effective way to set the time correctly, you need to put a meat thermometer in the thickest part of the thigh, you must wait until this thermometer registers 175 degrees F
Another approximative (but effective) way to know how much time the turkey should be roasted, is to consider ten to twelve minutes if it\'s not a stuffed turkey, and twelve to fifteen minutes if it\'s a stuffed one.
You may know that you shouldn\'t cover a roasting turkey, right? (Trying to get an excellent deep brown skin of course). But if the turkey begins to brown too quickly, you should do it. Use aluminum foil in this case, try to cover the brown parts only.
This recipe serves six person.. Bon appétit!
